Martin Chou Ph.D. (aka AeroMartin)
Hi everyone! I’m Martin Chou, though many of you may know me online as AeroMartin. Thanks for stopping by my site.
A Life Built Around Flight
I’ve been obsessed with things that fly for as long as I can remember. That passion for model airplanes shaped my entire academic path and eventually led me to earn a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, along with a minor in Computer Science.
Since then, I’ve worked on a wide range of advanced engineering systems—from commercial jet turbine engines to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)/drones. All of it has strengthened my interest in how different flying systems are built, tested, and improved.
Coaching Science Olympiad
For more than a decade, I’ve been sharing what I know by coaching high school Science Olympiad teams. I focus on events where precision engineering really matters, especially:
- Aeronautics: Wright Stuff, Flight, Helicopter, Glider, Wind Power
- Structures: Bridge, Tower
My coaching style is straightforward: Learn the principles. Build with purpose. Test fast. Improve faster.
I want students to understand why designs work, not just copy them. Engineering is all about balancing variables, making smart trade-offs, and learning from every iteration. Winning is exciting, but the real value comes from learning to think like an engineer.
I’m incredibly proud of my students’ achievements, including multiple top finishes at Regionals and States, and most recently, the 2025 National Division C Helicopter Champion.
Sharing What I Build
I believe engineering knowledge should be accessible to anyone who’s curious and motivated. That’s why I publish many of my designs and tools—including original airplane designs, custom flexible software, and a variety of 3D‑printable utilities and gadgets.
You can find my work on:
- Thingiverse.com
- HippocketAeronautics.com
- RCGroups.com
- YouTube
- And of course, right here on StarImagineering.com
My hope is that these resources help students create better designs, deeper understanding, and real confidence in their own engineering abilities.
