Trivia
- An iStar kit contains 200+ pieces of laser-cut balsa wood. There were cut from 10 pieces of contest balsa or ply (4″ or 3″ x 24″).
- The development of iStar took approximately six months. The CAD plan (AutoCAD 2000 drawing) has more than forty main revisions logged during this period of time.
- There are 5425 “objects” (lines and such) on the final laser cut plan alone, not counting the main plan (which has 3957 objects by itself.) These objects were organized in sixteen “Layers.”
- The first prototype was framed up in four evenings. Easy build, thanks to the precision of laser cutting.
- Although the majority of the first batch of kits were delivered to USA, many were sent to other countries, including Canada, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, UK, South Korea, and Taiwan.
- Approximately 700 pictures were taken during the construction of iStar. ~400 more pictures taken for the first two flights, including sixteen video clips. 65 pictures went into the Construction Guide.
